Hi—my name is Erik, but on the internet I go by the name Fish. I'm an open source user experience designer, with little to no skill in programming; this dev log is my first foray into learning how to make a game from start to finish. You can consider this both a casual log of my journey throughout the development of the game, in addition to being a little insight into how indie games are developed.

I'm writing this more for myself than for others, but that doesn't really mean I'm going to write a shitty blog post. I'll be spending some time every now and again writing these articles, but please don't expect high quality literature.

What am I creating?

Obedience will be a dungeon crawler rogue-lite, with sexually explicit furry M/M content, and eventually it'll be published on storefronts like Steam and Itch.io. As for the gameplay, it'll be akin to something like The Binding of Isaac & Thirstchasm. If that interests you—great! If it doesn't, I can only hope what I've written is at least interesting to you.

I won't be sharing any details beyond that right now to avoid scope-creeping the game or setting the wrong expectations about what this game will be. The initial description is the baseline of what you should expect during the development. That being said; let me share the plan!

The Plan

The plan going forward is building a short demo that acts as a vertical slice of what the full game will end up being like. I'd like to include at least one fully explorable procedurally-generated area, and animated explicit scenes. I have no firm plans on a release schedule, but I'd like to finish some semblance of a demo within the next three months. Optimistic, I know.

I don't have concrete plans yet, but I've been writing up an Obsidian knowledge-base. Once I'm ready to share more in the coming weeks, this publication is where I'll be posting first. That's it for the most part, not much to say for now! The next dev log will be the first "official" post regarding the game, and I'll have a lot more to talk about and actually show off. You should expect to see this in about a week or two. Bye for now!
